Loaves and Fishes
St. Isidore Faith Formation Program, in partnership with St. Isidore School, gave the director of Loaves and Fishes, Joleen Lafayette, a former St. Isidore School parent, a check for $4,279 collected from the nine recent First Communions. “Traditionally we have brought Loaves and Fishes loaves of bread,” said Jean Schroeder, children’s faith formation director at the Danville parish. “COVID helped us adapt to perhaps a new ritual.”

The need to provide adequate access to health care has been highlighted by events this past year. That is why the Knights of Columbus Council 9206 is proud to announce it is partnering with St. Vincent de Paul of Contra Costa County to host the 15th annual Swing for Charity Golf Tournament.
Proceeds from the tournament will go toward providing free medical care to the uninsured in Contra Costa County, at the RotaCare Pittsburg Free Medical Clinic at St. Vincent de Paul.
The July 19 tournament at the Crow Canyon Country Club hopes to raise the funds to help provide hundreds of free doctor visits to uninsured patients like Martha.
Martha works full time at a restaurant. Her employer does not offer health insurance. She had found it too expensive on her limited income to get adequate health care. Until she started feeling ill, health care was not a priority. She heard about the free medical clinic at the St. Vincent de Paul Family Resource Center.
I appreciate the volunteers here so much, Martha said, even when they lovingly tell me to change some parts of my lifestyle.
Martha now uses many of the clinics services including primary care, flu shots, health education and healthy-cooking classes.
Theres a huge need out there, its been delightful to volunteer what time I have, said Dr. Jane Hewitt, a volunteer since 2012 who serves as the clinics volunteer medical director. I have met some wonderful people and have been able to make a real difference in their lives through the free clinic.
The free medical clinic expanded its ability to provide medical care via Telehealth, allowing it to provide medical care to many who lack the ability to travel to Pittsburg.
This last year has been so difficult for so many people and we are finally now able to get out and renew friendships while raising money for families that need help, said Roberto Piccioni, Grand Knight of Council at St. Joan of Arc Parish in San Ramon. Charity is a core value of the Knights of Columbus and were so pleased to work with our friends at St. Vincent de Paul to host this fun event and support this very worthy cause.
The goal for the event is to raise enough revenue to support 300 free medical visits for uninsured patients.
The tournament will feature 18 holes of golf, a barbecue lunch and pre-golf and on-course contests.
