Senior Profile

'Ed' Bautista

Who: Ricardo "Ed" Bautista

Born: In the Philippines of Catholic parents. "We prayed the Rosary every night with my four sisters and four brothers."

Family: Bautista, who is 65 years young, has been married to Marissa for 35 years. Together they raised three daughters who all attended Catholic schools "from kindergarten to high school."

Currently: A volunteer catechist at St. Francis of Assisi Parish in Concord, where he helps prepare young kids for first reconciliation and first Communion.

Lesson: Over the last year the students have been exploring the question, "Who is my neighbor?" They learned that their neighbors are not only the people who live in the houses next door to them, but that neighbor means everyone.

Work: Employed at St. John the Baptist Parish in El Cerrito. "I attend to visitors in this busy location which has various needs. I answer calls of any nature. I prepare the weekly bulletin and assist ministries, help make things possible and workable. This work is an answered prayer."

Life: "I was laid off and did not find work for a number of years. I spent those days attending daily Masses and adoration hours. At home I am a daily viewer of EWTN. I pray my morning and evening prayers. I belong to the Secular Discalceds, since 1995. I am a member of Knights of Columbus since 1984 starting at San Pablo. I support St. Vincent de Paul Pantry. I have volunteered for Catholic Charities as well.

Faith: Every moment is a prayer.

Scripture: Psalm 51/Ezekiel 17/1 Peter

Smile: One day I would like to have my car painted and cover it all over with the words "Jesus loves you."
