Pro-life groups gear up for January events

Each January, the anniversary of the Supreme Court's Roe v. Wade decision, legalizing abortion in the United States, is commemorated with events in Oakland and San Francisco.

The West Coast Walk for Life, the larger of the two events, will be in San Francisco on Jan. 21. Speakers at the rally, scheduled for 12:30 p.m. at Civic Center Plaza, include Pam Tebow, pro-life advocate and mother of Heisman Trophy winner Tim Tebow; Reggie Littlejohn, founder and president of Women's Rights Without Frontiers; Melissa Ohden, abortion survivor; and Rev. Clenard Childress, founder of BlackGenocide.org.

The walk down Market Street toward Justin Herman Plaza will begin at 1:30 p.m. Crowds have been estimated as high as 50,000 for the San Francisco event.

See www.walkforlifewc.com for more details.

At noon Jan. 20, Littlejohn will be the main speaker at the Issues4Life rally at Frank Ogawa Plaza in front of Oakland City Hall. Rev. Childress is expected to be among the speakers at the rally, which is under the direction of Rev. Walter Hoye.

A Conversations4Life dinner will be held that evening at St. Stephen Parish in Walnut Creek.

See www.issues4lifefoundation.org for more details.

The March for Life in Washington, DC, is scheduled for Jan. 27. It is later than usual because of the presidential inauguration. See http://marchforlife.org for details.
