Mary's month
Fremont's St. Joseph School community honored Mary, our Blessed Mother in May. There's a statue of Mary in every classroom, and some classes say a portion or the entire rosary and teachers decorate bulletin boards. At a school liturgy, second- graders crowned a statue of Mary and surrounded her with roses. Fifth-graders learned about the Marian apparitions and joined the parish in celebrating the arrival of a pilgrim statue of Our Lady of Fatima. Working in pairs, fifth-grade pupils had a contest for Language Arts where they wrote a rhyming prayer to honor Mary. The winners were Katie Lam and Finnian Reed, whose prayer is: "Dear Mary, You gave birth to our Savior, and that changed our behavior. I'll never forget what you did, even though I'm just a kid."

Winners in Bocelli concert drawing

Ines Seoane of Livermore and Rebecca Guerrero of Hayward each won two tickets in the Catholic Voice Andrea Bocelli Giveaway.

The Catholic Voice sponsored a random drawing for two pairs of tickets to a June 4 concert by the famed, blind Italian vocalist at the SAP Center in San Jose. When a scheduling conflict arose after the San Jose Sharks were to play the Pittsburgh Penguins in Game 3 of the Stanley Cup Finals, the concert was moved to June 3.
