Big turnout at East African Mass
The East African Catholic community celebrated its 10th anniversary with more than 150 participants at a Mass May 15 at St. David of Wales Parish in Richmond. A reception followed the Mass at the nearby West Contra Costa Adult Education School. The East African Mass takes place at 2 p.m. every third Sunday, and is said in Swahili, the common language of Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania. A large screen projects the Mass text and songs in Swahili for all to folllow. As part of the bringing of the gifts on May 15, flags of the U.S. and the three East African countries were brought up.
