Help SVdP prepare Easter party for kids

Lent may just be beginning, but the Society of St. Vincent de Paul of Alameda County is planning its annual Easter Open House for local children and their families.

About 200 children and their families are expected at the March 19 event, at which the kids, ages 1 to 16, will build their own Easter baskets, decorate eggs, make crafts, play games and enjoy lunch in the St. Vincent de Paul Dining Room in downtown Oakland.

Donations of medium-size Easter baskets, individually package snacks, plastic eggs filled with candy, individually wrapped Easter candy, Easter-themed coloring books or activity books, new or very gently used children's books and $25 grocery store gift cards are needed by March 5 at St. Vincent de Paul, 675 23rd St., Oakland.

Monetary donations may be made online at www.svdp-almeda.org or mailed to St. Vincent de Paul Society, 9235 San Leandro St., Oakland 94603. Make checks payable to St. Vincent de Paul and note "Easter Open House" on the memo line.

Contact Jackie Mallory at 510-638-7600. Volunteers 16 years or older are needed for the March 19 event. Contact Muna Texier at 510-719-0774 or mtexier@svdp-alameda.org.
