A bishop's memoir
Vicki Nguyen was the first in line to have Bishop John S. Cummins sign a copy of his memoir, "Vatican II, Berkeley and Beyond: The First Half Century of the Oakland Diocese, 1962-2012," in the Cathedral Parish Hall on Dec. 13. "We've been with him since St Mary's/St. Francis de Sales," Nguyen said of her family. "We love him so much." Also among those sharing memories with Bishop Cummins, who served as bishop of Oakland from 1977 until his retirement in 2003, was Joseph Narvaez, a parishioner at St. Patrick Parish in Rodeo, who was confirmed by the bishop in 1988.
