Shunyao Zhang of Moreau Catholic High School in Hayward recently won the prize for Best Foreign Language High School documentary for "Dancing Towards Happiness" from The International Student Film Festival Hollywood.
The O'Dowd Clay Club at Bishop O'Dowd High School in Oakland raised nearly $800 for the Potters for Peace Clay Water Filter Project. The club spent the fall semester selling Clay Club T-shirts, sweatshirts and aprons to raise cash that will be used to build ceramic water filters and make safe drinking water. Every year some 1.7 million people, mostly children under five years of age, die as a result of the lack of safe drinking water in many parts of the world.

The Graduate Theological Union established the Center for Dharma Studies in the U.S. The new Mira and Ajay Shingal DCF Center for Dharma Studies, established and endowed with a $4.4 million gift from the Shingals, will focus on leading edge, multidisciplinary, graduate research and teaching in Hindu Studies and Dharma Studies. The center will also support and strengthen "current programs in Hindu Studies and Jain Studies and is designed to include in the future other religions or systems of thought and practice that self-identify as Dharma Traditions," said the Dec. 9 announcement.
