JustFaith on the Island
Fourteen men and women have completed St. Joseph Basilica's first JustFaith program. Members of Alameda, Fremont and Oakland parishes joined in a 27-week experience of transformation. Graduates gathered at St. Joseph for a blessing from Father George Alengadan at the 11:30 a.m. Mass on July 19 and hosted the Sunday morning hospitality to share information about the justice education and formation program that teaches caring for vulnerable people and becoming advocates for justice. An information meeting for this year's program will be from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Sept. 12 at the St. Joseph Parish Center, 1119 Lafayette St. Alameda. Contact Anne Marie Fourré at 510-995-9409 or afourre@sjbalameda.org for information. Similar new JustFaith groups are planned this fall at Christ the King Parish, Pleasant Hill, and St. John Vianney Parish, Walnut Creek. For more: www.justfaith.org. St. Anne wraps up 50th year events
St. Anne's Parish in Walnut Creek wrapped up its Golden Jubilee on Aug. 16, ending a year of celebratory events. Seventeen priests joined Bishop Michael C. Barber, SJ, saying Mass in a church filled to capacity with parishioners and well-wishers who braved the 100-plus degree heat. At left, Bishop Barber and Parochial Administrator, Rev. Joseph Parekkatt, toast the parish's anniversary in front of an ice sculpture during the reception.
