Several more parishes have surpassed their goals in the Diocese of Oakland's Reclaiming Christ's Mission Together Capital Campaign.

Parishes receive 25 percent of funds raised for their own use. The campaign will also generate funds to aid diocesan ministries that include Catholic Charities, tuition assistance, priest retirement and debt restructuring.

Parishes that have surpassed their fund-raising goal include the Cathedral Parish of Christ the Light, Oakland; Queen of All Saints, Concord; St. Anthony-Mary Help of Christians, Oakland; St. Margaret Mary, Oakland; St. Patrick, Rodeo; St. John Vianney, Walnut Creek. Others that should reach their goal shortly: St. Jarlath in Oakland, Santa Maria in Orinda, and St. Anne in Union City.

More than 300 receptions were held at the diocese's 84 parishes.

Congratulations to the parishes and their parish leadership for achieving goal, said Ken Hokenson, executive director of the Office for Mission Advancement.

Many parishes have yet to have their commitment weekends, where parishioners are asked to donate or pledge.

More than 8,000 donations or pledges have been received, with about $32 million committed.

"This is our church. This is our faith. If we're going to have a church here on earth we have to support it. If we're going to have the Kingdom of God, we have to support the church on earth," Hokenson said.

Registered parishioners who have not indicated their participation are receiving follow-up mailings and phone calls.
