Young talent shines at arts festival

Young artists, both visual and performing, displayed their talents at the 29th annual Festival of the Arts, presented by the Diocese of Oakland Department of Catholic Schools' Lillian Black Children's Arts Council on Feb. 22 at Bishop O'Dowd High School in Oakland.

Pupils from St. Paul School in San Pablo were among the Catholic school artists who displayed their work at the Festival of the Arts.

Performers included the O'Dowd Symphonic Band and String Ensemble; St. Edward (Newark) String Ensembles; Our Lady of Guadalupe (Fremont) Band; St. Joseph Notre Dame High School (Alameda) Advanced Band; St. Martin de Porres School Violins; Dancers Divine of Our Lady of Guadalupe School in Fremont; St. Joseph Notre Dame High School percussion ensemble; and choirs from Corpus Christi School in Piedmont; Holy Names High School in Oakland; All Saints School in Hayward; St. Edward School in Newark; St. Elizabeth Elementary of Oakland; St. Theresa School of Oakland; and St. Felicitas School of San Leandro.

The visual arts exhibit featured artists from: All Saints School, Hayward; Assumption School, San Leandro; Bishop O'Dowd High School, Oakland; Carondelet High School, Concord; Corpus Christi School, Piedmont; Holy Spirit School, Fremont; Our Lady of Guadalupe School, Fremont; Our Lady of the Rosary School, Union City; Queen of All Saints School, Concord; School of the Madeleine, Berkeley; St. Anthony School, Oakland; St. Bede School, Hayward; St. Clement School, Hayward; St. Edward School, Newark; St. Elizabeth Elementary School, Oakland; St. Felicitas School, San Leandro; St. Francis of Assisi School, Concord; St. Jarlath School, Oakland; St. Jerome School, El Cerrito; St. John Catholic School, San Lorenzo; St. Joseph School, Fremont; St. Joseph Elementary School, Alameda; St. Joseph Notre Dame High School, Alameda; St. Leander School, San Leandro; St. Michael School, Livermore; St. Paul School, San Pablo; St. Perpetua School, Lafayette; St. Philip Neri School, Alameda; St. Raymond School, Dublin; and St. Theresa School, Oakland.
