Mass opens Year of Consecrated Life
A special year dedicated to consecrated life set by Pope Francis was marked in the Oakland diocese by a Mass and reception at the Cathedral of Christ the Light on Feb. 7. More than 100 religious sisters, brothers and priests from various orders, congregations and societies were joined by an equal number of supporters for the Mass said by Bishop Michael C. Barber, SJ. The special year began with Advent, Nov. 30, and will end Feb. 2, 2016, the World Day of Consecrated life. It is an effort to help lay Catholics gain a deeper understanding of religious life.
