Just for Seniors

Events, activities and opportunities for seniors in the Oakland diocese are being taken for the next Senior Living and Resources section on Jan. 5. Submit entries by the Dec. 17 deadline to Carrie McClish, 2121 Harrison St., Oakland 94612, cmcclish@oakdiocese.org or 510-419-1074.


Mondays, Nov. 17, Dec. 15, Jan. 19

Senior luncheons. Every third Monday at St. Anthony Parish, 971 O'Hara Ave., Oakley. Most start arriving at 11:30 a.m. Lunch followed by Bingo. There is no charge. The program includes occasional bus trips.

Nov. 20
Annual thanksgiving catered lunch, noon, $10 donation, at All Saints Parish, 22824 Second St., Hayward. Contact Frances Legg, 510-846-5300, for reservations.

Dec. 9
Sts. Lawrence O'Toole/St. Cyril Parish, 3725 High St., Oakland, is having a potluck senior luncheon at noon. 510-530-0761.

Jan. 21
Age of Grace and Wisdom Potluck Luncheons. Third Wednesdays January through October at St. Charles Borromeo Parish, 1315 Lomitas Ave., Livermore. No charge — just bring a dish to share. Subject to change, contact parish office, 925-447-4549, ext.115.


Nov. 14
Our Lady of Guadalupe Church, 40382 Fremont Blvd., Fremont, offers its semi-annual Mass and breakfast for seniors — Mass at 9 a.m. followed by breakfast. Sponsored by Our Lady of Guadalupe School. 510-657-4043.

Nov. 21, Dec. 19, Jan. 16
The Classic Club Pot Luck Dinner is held the third Friday of every month at 5:45 p.m. except July and August in the Ministry Center at St. Isidore Parish, 440 La Gonda Way, Danville. Occasionally there is Bingo, trivia and always good food and camaraderie. Plan to bring an appetizer, salad, entrée (pre-cooked) or a dessert to share. $3 each at the door covers paper goods and beverages. Questions, call Rosalia at 925-837-9486.

Dec. 4
Christmas party — the highlight of the year for seniors at St. Joseph Parish, 836 Tenant Ave., Pinole. Mass is at 11 a.m.; pot luck Christmas lunch follows. Christmas caroling by the St. Joseph School pupils and a gift exchange with Santa Claus. To receive a gift, you must bring a gift of no more than $10. December 21
The Birthdays and Anniversaries breakfast of the Silver and Gold Ministry at St. Ignatius of Antioch Parish, 3351 Contra Loma Blvd., Antioch, will be at 9 a.m. in the Parish Hall. 925-778-0768 or www.stignatius ofantioch.com.


Nov. 15
Floral arrangement session, 9:30 a.m.-11:30 a.m., Mercy Retirement & Care Center, 3431 Foothill Blvd., Oakland. Seniors and their caregivers are invited to join Valerie Lee from J. Miller Flowers to learn how to make a floral display for November and how to change it up in December. Lee will bring flowers, greens, and other materials. Bring a vase and share its story (e.g. wedding present, anniversary gift). Refreshments. This is a free event, but space is limited. Community Resource Partnership presents "How to Keep Control of your Golden Years." Get answers to your questions like: What legal documents will I need? How am I going to pay for what I need? What are my options? This senior fair begins at 6 p.m. in the De Sousa House at Holy Spirit Parish, 37588 Fremont Blvd.., Fremont. Dinner will be provided. Dec. 3-4
All Saints' Parish, Hayward, overnight Christmas program at El Dorado Hotel in Reno. Hosted buffet dinner at 5:30 p.m. followed by show. Second day to Silver Legacyh for four hour stay. Leave for home at 2:30 p.m. Cost: $172 double occupancy, $30 extra for single. Contact Diana at 510-581-0736.

December 21
