Around the Parishes

Father Paulson Mundanmani was installed as pastor of Christ the King Parish by Bishop Emeritus John Cummins on Oct. 25. "I am grateful for my call and I will always treasure your hospitality and prayers," the new pastor wrote to parishioners in the bulletin.

More than 450 St. Isidore parishioners attended the eighth annual Father Frank's Fiesta, which raises about $70,000 each year to support Nuestros Pequenos Hermanos. The Danville parish continues to support the mission started by Father Frank Colacicco to help the orphaned and abandoned children of Central America. Today, Father Frank's Kids provides support to the orphanages run by Nuestros Pequeños Hermanos in Mexico, Guatemala, Nicaragua, Honduras, El Salvador, Dominican Republic, Haiti, Bolivia and Peru. This year's fiesta featured entertainment by musicians and dancers from the orphanage in Mexico. St. Isidore parishioners hosted the visiting children in their homes for six days. The parish's contribution provides food, medical and school supplies, doctor, nurse and teacher salaries, college tuition, bus transportation and clothing.

Around the Schools

Deacon Jorge Angel, who serves at the Cathedral of Christ the Light, presided at the blessing of a former patch of weeds between the gym and the former convent at All Saints School in Hayward. The deacon leveled the ground and made sure it had proper drainage. He installed a tricycle track, sandbox, picnic tables and turf area. The school's transitional kindergarten and kindergarten students are the primary users of the new space, but all classes are able to use the area for outdoor classes. The school needs to buy tricycles ($176 to $250) that are approved for school use. Contact Principal Jennifer Diaz at 510-582-1910 if you can help.

St. Leander School students gathered in the parish Peace Pole garden on a beautiful October morning in San Leandro to pray a Living Rosary. Student Council members and representatives from the classes led the entire school community, each student representing one "bead" and leading one prayer of the Joyful Mysteries. Students brought their rosaries from home or made rosaries in class.

Pupils at St. Michael School in Livermore learn that mercy is a virtue that influences one to show compassion and to alleviate another's misfortune. In an effort to practice the corporal works of mercy, pupils collected gently used blankets and sleeping bags for the Livermore Homeless Shelter. The Leadership Team sold treats, providing cash for the shelter to purchase other items that are needed.
