Blessing of the animals
Dogs on leashes, cats in pet carriers, even a chicken, gathered at sites around the diocese for the Blessing of the Animals, celebrating the feast of St. Francis of Assisi. Above, at St. Augustine Parish in Oakland, these beloved creatures, big and small, were welcomed into God's House and sat through the entire Mass before receiving their blessings from the parochial administrator, Rev. William Rosario. Left, sisters Madeleine and Rachel Canavese brought their hen, Puffycheeks.
