Nov. 1 Requiem Mass
will remember the dead

The faithful departed will be remembered at a Requiem Mass celebrated by the bishop at the Cathedral of Christ the Light as well as at Masses earlier that day in all Catholic cemeteries.

Bishop Michael C. Barber, SJ, will celebrate a Requiem Mass at 5:30 p.m. Nov. 1 at the Cathedral of Christ the Light. The Cathedral Choir, under the direction of Rudy de Vos, will sing the Requiem composed by Gabriel Fauré in the late 1880s. Bishop Barber will celebrate the Novus Ordo in Latin.

A special invitation to the Mass is extended to all those who have lost a family member or friend during the past year. A special Remembrance Book will be available upon entering the cathedral to inscribe the loved one's name. Prayers for the repose of their soul will be said at the Mass and throughout the month of November in the cathedral.

Earlier on Nov. 1, All Souls Day Masses will be celebrated at 11 a.m. at all the Catholic cemeteries in the Diocese of Oakland.

Candles will be lighted at 6:30 p.m. Nov. 1 for the three-day Vigil of Light celebrations at the Cathedral of Christ the Light in Oakland, St. Joseph Cemetery in San Pablo, Holy Sepulchre Cemetery in Hayward and Holy Cross Cemetery in Antioch. Prayer and candle lighting will be followed by light refreshments at these locations.

See http://www.cfcsoakland.org/asd/ or dial 855-481-4081 to order candles to be placed at a loved one's grave for the candlelight vigil. Candles are $5 each, and are available for placement at the Cathedral of Christ the Light, St. Joseph, Holy Sepulchre and Holy Cross.
