Enduring love will be honored Oct. 19 as couples married 25 years and more are invited to the wedding anniversary celebration at the Cathedral of Christ the Light.

"People want to celebrate the energy and life long-term marriages represent," said Mimi Streett, coordinator of marriage and family life for the diocese, who is planning the event

Bishop Michael C. Barber, SJ, will celebrate Mass at 10 a.m. After Mass, the happy couples will be invited to attend a reception, where appetizers and wedding cake will be served.

The anniversary couples will have an opportunity to be photographed with the bishop.

Two years ago, during the celebration of the 50th year of the diocese of Oakland, more than 150 couples registered for a wedding anniversary Mass. Together with family and friends, they packed the cathedral.

Pre-registration is required. A registration fee is $20 per couple; the fee for each additional reception guest is $10. Reservations must be made by Oct. 8. Reserve online at www.oakanniversary.info or dial 510-267-8395. Couples are also asked to submit a wedding picture. A slideshow of wedding photos will be played during the reception.

At the 2012 celebration, the couples represented 6,734 years of marriage. Petra and Adolfo Padilla, who raised their six children at St. Elizabeth Parish in Oakland, were the longest married of the attendees. They had been married 70 years.

A diocesan wedding anniversary celebration, Streett said, offers the "chance for the whole church to rejoice as a family."
