Nineteen teams compete in CYO Boys' Sand Volleyball
This season, 19 teams participated in the CYO Boys' Sand Volleyball League.
Each year, on Sunday afternoons during April and May, CYO teams in fifth through eighth grades, along with their families, meet at Quarry Lakes Park in Fremont to play sand volleyball. The season of play culminates with a tournament.
The champions and runners-up of this years' tournament are:
Eighth Grade — St. Felicitas 1, San Leandro, champion; St. Philip Neri, Alameda, runner-up.
Seventh Grade — Corpus Christi 1, Piedmont, champion; St, Philip Neri, Alameda, runner-up.
Sixth Grade — St. Joseph 1, Alameda, champion; St. Edward, Newark, runner-up.
Fifth Grade — St. Philip Neri, Alameda, champion.
Sand volleyball features fun in the sun — and sand. No standings are kept during the season and all participating teams are invited to play in the year-end tournament. In addition to the spirited games, families of team members picnic in the park in a casual atmosphere.
