Young kitchen volunteer
Ricardo Cortez may be only 13 years old, but he is one of the most dedicated Sunday kitchen volunteers, reports Kitchen Manager Eric Gremillion. Hayward, SOS/Meals on Wheels San Leandro, which delivers meals to the homebound in San Leandro, Castro Valley, San Lorenzo and Oakland. Ricardo has been volunteering since January and has put in many hours on the kitchen tray line, helping to package meals for delivery. The eighth-grader at St. Felicitas school in San Leandro says he "got started because I wanted to help out a local nonprofit organization. … I chose Meals on Wheels because I like helping out the elderly people." Ricardo is a busy student and plays baseball.
