Shelter Shuffle helps fund FESCO

The Shelter Shuffle Walkathon — the major fundraising event of the year for the Hayward Family Emergency Shelter Coalition (FESCO) — is set for May 3 at the San Leandro Marina.

This is the 17th annual fundraiser for FESCO, which is supported by a coalition of congregations including All Saints, St. Bede, St. Clement and St. Joachim parishes in Hayward; Our Lady of Grace and Transfiguration in Castro Valley; St. John the Baptist in San Lorenzo; and Our Lady of the Rosary in Union City.

Each year, FESCO assists almost 400 parents and their children with the services they need to regain their housing, increase their incomes, access healthcare and other important community resources, and ensure that the children are thriving in their educational, physical, social and emotional development. FESCO provides emergency shelter, and transitional and permanent housing, as families seek to end their homelessness.

Participants are encouraged to walk as individuals or as a team in this family-friendly, dog-friendly walk along the scenic paths of the San Leandro Marina Park. Walkers gather pledges to support FESCO's work. The walk begins at 10 a.m.

Day-of registration and check-in opens at 8:30 a.m. An opening ceremony is set for 10 a.m. Lunch and entertainment follow the walk. There will be a closing ceremony at noon.

Online registration is available at www.firstgiving.com/21524/fesco. For more information, dial Stuart Loth, community outreach coordinator 510-886-5473, ext. 104.
