Hunger walks to begin

The Bay Area will have nine CROP Hunger Walks this spring — 5 of the 9 walks within the Oakland diocese. The multicultural, interfaith events have one goal — "To End Hunger, One Step At A Time!"

Seventy five percent of the funds raised are used for donor-designated international relief and 25 percent are used for local efforts to reduce hunger. Among the local beneficiaries: St. Vincent de Paul, the Cathedral of Christ the Light Conference; global beneficiaries include Catholic Relief Services.

Local walks include:

Oakland, April 5 — 8:45 a.m. registration, 9:30 a.m. 5K walk around Lake Merritt begins at The Cathedral of Christ the Light, 2121 Harrison St.

Berkeley, April 6 — 1 p.m. registration, 1:30 p.m. walk begins at Newman Hall, 2700 Dwight Way at College Ave.

East County (Pittsburg/Antioch), April 6 — 2:30 p.m. registration, 3 p.m. walk from St. Andrew's Lutheran Church, 2507 San Jose Drive, Antioch.

Alameda, May 4 — 12:30 p.m. registration, 1 p.m. walk begins at Washington Park.

Exhibition Three: Illuminating the Divine Word Anew: the Heritage Edition of The St. John's Bible. LeFevre Theater, at Saint Mary's College, 1824 Saint Mary's Road, Moraga. The entire new Heritage Edition of The St. John's Bible, the first hand-written illuminated Bible manuscript commissioned by a Benedictine Abbey in more than 500 years, is on display in the Museum this spring.
