Saint Mary's offers speakers series


A series of speakers will examine poetry, diversity in the employment world and environmental and juvenile justice as part of Saint Mary's College's Jan Term program.

During the month of January, every undergraduate is invited to explore a single topic in great depth and at an accelerated pace, either on campus, or at locales as exotic as Rwanda, Martinique and Sundance, Utah. The talks are open to the public.

Each presentation in the series begins at 7 p.m. in the Soda Activity Center, 1928 Saint Mary's Road, Moraga.

Jan. 7: Cheri Chastain, sustainability coordinator for Sierra Nevada Brewing Co., "Brewing a Successful Sustainability Program."

Jan. 14: Kevin Coval, Chicago writer and community organizer, "Socially Engaged Arts and Hip Hop Poetics."

Jan. 21: Richard Ross, fine arts photographer and professor, "Juvenile In Justice: Art, Journalism, Sociology and Criminal Justice."

Jan. 22: Geraldine Moriba, writer/reporter for CNN and vice president for diversity and inclusion at CNN Worldwide, "Gender, Race and the Metamorphosis of the News Industry."

Jan. 30: Robert Hass, former U.S. Poet Laureate and Saint Mary's College alumnus, "Thinking About Ovid in the 21st Century: Metamorphosis, Myth and the Carbon Cycle."
