Crèche Festival Dec. 13-15

The fourth annual Crèche Festival will be Dec. 13-15 at the Cathedral of Christ the Light, 2121 Harrison St., Oakland.

The crèche displays create the opportunity for visitors to reflect upon the spiritual meaning of the season. A highlight of the event will be the "Starlight Festival", which prominently features crèches created by parishes from the Diocese of Oakland and are displayed in the Cathedral Event Center. Last year more than 50 parish crèches were displayed.

Here are the dates and events:

• Dec. 13 — A donor reception will take place this evening and the first viewing of the crèches will begin at 7:30 p.m. followed by the Grammy award-winning ensemble, Chanticleer, for their annual Christmas concert at 8 p.m.

• Dec. 14 — Senior tour, lecture and luncheon. Pre-registration required. Learn how to make your own crèche in the afternoon. Laudamus Choir & Orchestra, including a sing-along for the audience, at 8 p.m.

• Dec. 15 — The festival concludes with an informative guest lecture on the origins of the crèche, its family traditions and ethnic meanings. A reception and live jazz performance culminates this three-day festival.

The Cathedral Shop will be open throughout the weekend.

Group Tours of the Cathedral are available during the festival.
