Our Lady of Guadalupe pilgrimage Dec. 7

Thousands are expected to take part in the Diocese of Oakland's eighth annual pilgrimage to honor Our Lady of Guadalupe on Dec. 7. Pilgrims will depart from St. Louis Bertrand Church, 1410 100th Ave., Oakland, at 9 a.m. The procession, with floats, musicians and costumes, will cover 7.5 miles on International Boulevard, go past Lake Merritt, and arrive at the Cathedral of Christ the Light about 1 p.m.

Bishop Michael C. Barber, SJ, will preside at the Mass, which is expected to begin at 1:30 p.m. in the cathedral.

The theme of this year's pilgrimage is "Maria, madre de los que no tienen voz, cúbrenos con tu manto" (Mary, mother of the voiceless, cover us with your mantle).
