Sisters arrived with energy and enthusiasm from various activities such as "Giving Voice" (the LCWR-sponsored weekend in Belmont), OP West collaborative retreat in San Rafael with Oakford Sister Sheila Flynn, or pilgriming to our first motherhouse in San Francisco and other Bay Area sites, including a USA Fourth of July.

The initial days at the Motherhouse overlapped with a discernment retreat for seven new inquirers, which proved to be an enriching experience for both groups. Two inquirers continue to discern toward entrance early next year.

Custom-designed neon yellow polo shirts displayed the theme "Gifted Leaders Called to Love and Serve." The "Called and Gifted" inventory booklets of St. Catherine of Siena Institute explored their "charism-gifts" and those of St. Dominic. "Servant Leadership" and "Skills for Leadership" deepened ideal and practical aspects that blossomed in preparing and hosting two parish gatherings to "Meet the Sisters" and encourage vocation awareness with parents and youth.

Sister Gloria Marie Jones, our congregational prioress, had recently returned from Rome and shared issues and stories of the meetings.

Each day began with contemplative sitting and morning prayer planned bilingually. Sister Mary Yun renewed her vows as a temporary professed during one evening prayer when the formation group enlivened the songs with guitars and percussion. Laughter and convivencia (good times) punctuated our days with joy, especially driving to Southern California and enjoying the beach at Santa Barbara and guest entrances to Disneyland.

Assisting in the process were directors Maria Rodriguez-Galvan (Novices and Candidates), Rosa Perez Godinez (Temporary Professed), US Directors Mary Liam Brock (Novices), Patricia Ann Smith (Candidates and Temporary Professed), Pauline Bouton (Temporary Professed) and Rose Marie Hennessy (Temporary Professed).
