In Berkeley, prayers for peace in Syria
Parishioners at St. Mary Magdalen Church in Berkeley joined their prayers for peace in Syria with those of Pope Francis and Catholics throughout the world on Sept. 7. The 8 a.m. Mass became a votive Mass for peace, with Father Dominic David Maichrowicz, OP, celebrating. "The problem in this world is not that we kill each other; the problem is that we hate each other," he said in his homily. "And to turn that tide of hatred we need to practice love — we need to practice prayer and sacrifice for each other." He also asked the participants to consider "if it might even be good to go beyond what the Holy Father has invited us to do — perhaps even to take up a regular fast and prayer for peace."
