Sister M. Martin Moran

Sister M. Martin Moran, a former religious educator, hospital chaplain and pastoral associate, died Aug. 20 in Fremont at the age of 92. She had been a member of the Sisters of the Holy Family for 74 years.

Sister Martin was born in Flagstaff, Arizona, and served as a religious education teacher in parishes throughout California and in Texas. She also served as a chaplain in hospital ministry both in the Bay Area and later in Honolulu, Hawaii. After returning to her congregation's Fremont Motherhouse in 1997, she became a pastoral associate at St. Joseph Parish, also in Fremont. Later she remained active and started her volunteer ministry at St. Joseph Parish and the Motherhouse. In recent years her ministry became a ministry of presence and prayer.

The funeral Mass was held Aug. 31 at the Motherhouse chapel. Burial followed at Holy Cross Cemetery in Colma.

Sister Dorothy Casper, OP

Sister Dorothy Casper died Aug. 7 in Fremont at the Motherhouse of the Dominican Sisters of Mission San Jose. She was 86 years of age and had been a Dominican Sister for 68 years.

A native of Los Angeles, Sister Dorothy's ministry in education took her to Catholic schools in both northern and southern California, as well as Portland, Oregon. She also served as corporation treasurer at three schools including Immaculate Conception Academy in San Francisco. She also served as treasurer at the Motherhouse for several years. Her final ministry while at the Motherhouse was hospitality and community service until her brief illness.

She is survived by her sister, Sister Evelyn Casper, and a brother, Donald William Casper and other relatives.

The funeral Mass was held Aug. 12 at the Dominican Sisters' Chapel in Fremont. She was buried in God's Acre, the Dominican Sisters Cemetery, following the Mass.
