For more information

All pastoral ministries, which include all departments that interact with people, are covered by the code. It will become a part of the handbook for every division of the diocese, including clergy, vocations, deacons, schools, evangelization and catechesis, CYO and personnel. Parish personnel also are subject to this code.

Representatives of each of those ministries were involved in writing the code, a process that took several months and committee meetings.

Sister Glenn Anne McPhee, OP, chancellor of the diocese, said the code articulates much of the information that has guided interactions with minors for many years, and has been available on the Safe Environment website.

Each of the ministries may have its own additional rules for interactions with minors.

Questions on the code may be directed to Sister Glenn Anne at 510-267-8334; Marilyn Marchi, coordinator of the Safe Environment project at 510-267-8315; or Penny Pendola, director of the Office of Human Resources 510-267-8359.
