Getting to know us

To get to know some aspects of the Diocese of Oakland, Bishop Michael C. Barber, SJ, made a series of visits May 16. In the early morning, above, he visited the fourth grade class at St. Agnes School in Concord. He discussed his upcoming consecration and explained the history and meaning of the crozier, using the late Bishop Floyd L. Begin's crozier as an example. Pastor Vince Cotter is seated behind Bishop Barber. Afterward, center left, Bishop Barber met with parish staff members, including Rev. Johnson Abraham, parochial administrator. At center right, Bishop Barber donned a hairnet and apron to serve noontime meals at the St. Vincent de Paul dining room in Oakland. In the afternoon, bottom, he went to donate blood and meet with Jeff Meyer, Northern California president, at the American Red Cross in Oakland.
