Honoring mothers in heaven
The altar at St. James Church in Fremont was adorned with bright- colored roses, photographs and 230 candles labeled with names of beloved mothers, grandmothers and mothers-in-law being remembered in a May 10 Eucharistic celebration. In his homily, Father Antony Vazhappilly stressed the value of a mother's role in the family, explaining that her love is constant and not limited by how much love she gets in return. Mothers who have gone before us are only gone from our sight, he said, but are very much alive in the traits of their children.
