Workshop in April

The Diocese of Oakland is offering a workshop entitled "Christian Initiation of Children: A Vision for Raising Disciples." It will address the adaptation of the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults for children, including the family's journey of faith, implementing the four stages of RCIA, moving from classroom model to ongoing conversion and identifying common issues.

The workshop will be offered in English 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. April 20 at St. Michael Parish (in the convent) in Livermore and 5:30 to 9:30 p.m. April 25 at St. Joseph Basilica (in the Parish Center) in Alameda. It will be offered in Spanish 5:30 to 9:30 p. m. April 22 at Queen of All Saints in Concord and April 23 at St. Louis Bertrand in Oakland. The first 30 minutes are registration and hospitality; program starts at 9 a.m. or 6 p.m.

This is the fourth in a series of workshops on the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults, designed for parish staff members and RCIA teams — and in this case, directors of religious education — to offer formation and assistance for those responsible for preparing adults and youth for baptism or reception into full communion of the Catholic Church.

An RCIA Binder is provided to all participants; returning participants should bring their binders for new materials. Hospitality will be provided. A $5 registration fee is payable at the door. Advance registration is requested. To register go to www.oakdiocese.org/registration. For additional information, contact Samuel Vásquez at 510-267-8394 or svasquez@oakdiocese.org.

Panel discusses Aquinas

A panel of four theologians will discuss Rev. Michael J. Dodds', OP, book, "Unlocking Divine Action: Contemporary Science and Thomas Aquinas," at a book signing at 7:30 p.m. April 23 at the Dominican School of Philosophy and Theology, 2301 Vine St., Berkeley, www.dspt.edu, 888-450-3778.

After the performance, enjoy pizza outside on the Cathedral Plaza. The Cathedral of Christ the Light is at 2121 Harrison St., Oakland. Requested donation is $5; children under 5 years free. For reservations, visit www.ctlcathedral.org. A free tour of the cathedral will be offered at 10 a.m.
