Funding hopes and dreams at Moreau Catholic

The Most Rev. Alex J. Brunett, apostolic administrator for the Diocese of Oakland, will be the keynote speaker at Moreau Catholic High School's fourth annual Funding Hopes and Dreams Luncheon on March 15 at the Hilton Newark-Fremont in Newark.

During his time as archbishop of Seattle, Archbishop Brunett created and nourished the Fulcrum Foundation, which is dedicated to providing Catholic school children with tuition assistance and scholarships.

At Moreau Catholic, a Holy Cross college-preparatory high school in Hayward, more than 30 percent of the students receive financial assistance. This luncheon is the school's major fundraiser for tuition assistance.

Previous keynote speakers at the Funding Hopes and Dreams luncheon — including actor Brian Copeland '82, US Treasurer Rosie Rios '83, and Rick Maya '80, superintendent and director of Catholic education for the Diocese of Sacramento — all passionately addressed the importance tuition assistance played in their Catholic educations at Moreau Catholic.

Christopher Baca, a 2012 graduate of Moreau Catholic, will speak on the importance of tuition assistance in his education. The Moreau Catholic Jazz Band, under the direction of Ted Newton, will perform for the luncheon guests.

A benefactor is covering the cost of the lunch. Attendees are asked to make a reservation by March 11 and to make a donation to Moreau Catholic's Tuition Assistance Program. Donors will match those donations dollar-for-dollar up to $50,000.

To make a reservation, contact Diana (Straggas) DeFrance '76, ddefrance@moreaucatholic.org, 510-881-4330.
