Staying independent
Surveys show 95 percent of people over the age of 75 desire to age in place, and about a quarter of seniors live alone. Baby Boomers are now turning 65 at a rate of about 8,000 a day, according to AARP. Alison Jacobson, of the SafetyMom.com blog has some tips: Prevent falls by removing scatter rugs; make sure electric cords don't extend into high-traffic areas; brighten lights in kitchen work areas and help keep social ties with new safety and tech advances, like a home safety telephone system. Products from VTech (www.vtechphones.com/CareLine) are designed for optimal usability, even for those with vision, hearing and dexterity issues.
