| Diocese wraps up 50th anniversary year
The Diocese of Oakland will wrap up a year's worth of remembrance and celebration marking its 50th anniversary this month. The diocese was formed out of the Archdiocese of San Francisco on Jan. 13, 1962 — the same year the Second Vatican Council began.
The anniversary year was marked by a number of events recalling the connection between it and Vatican II, the diversity and aspirations of its people. In August there was an anniversary Mass and reception, a Symposium Sept. 9 and a multicultural celebration Oct. 13.
The Catholic Voice has reported on these events and offered up historical and spiritual reflections during the year. We continue those on this page and will wrap up the jubilee year with more reflections and coverage of the dinner Jan. 6 honoring parish volunteers in our next issue Jan. 21.
