50 years in Bay Point
Games, ethnic foods and dance were among the festivities for the 50th anniversary of the founding of Our Lady Queen of the World Parish in Bay Point Aug. 17-19.

The distinction of being the first new parish in the Diocese of Oakland belongs to Our Lady Queen of the World in Bay Point. As the diocese observes its 50th anniversary, the parish established by Oakland's first bishop, Most Rev. Floyd L. Begin and named in honor of the patroness of the diocese, had its golden anniversary celebration, beginning with evening prayers Aug. 17, a gala dinner Aug. 18 and Mass and festival Aug. 19. Left, ethnic dancers performed; at right, Archbishop-designate Salvatore J. Cordileone and Rev. Richard Culver, pastor of the 2,000-family community; below, the entrance to the parish hall.
