All are invited to join members at Oakland's St. Bernard Parish, 62nd Avenue and East 16th Street, the weekend of Aug. 17-19 to celebrate the faith community's 100th year.

The three-day celebration will begin with "Spiritual Night: St. Bernard Community" from 6-9 p.m. Aug. 17. Holy Sacrament Adoration will be held all night. The following day, the community will come together for a social gathering from 7-11 p.m. Aug. 18. Catered finger food and drinks will be served. The main celebration begins with a bilingual Mass at 10 a.m. Aug. 19. Bishop Emeritus John S. Cummins will be the main celebrant and Msgr. Antonio Valdivia will be the homilist. A festival of celebration follows the Mass.

St. Bernard Church began in 1909 as a mission church of St. Louis Bertrand Church. It achieved parish status in 1912 and served a predominately Portuguese community. Today the parish is mostly Latino and is also home to an international community that includes African American, European and Tongan families.

For more information, contact the parish at 510-632-3013.
