New scholarship at St. Leander
Ryan Duarte (Class of 2011), left, one of St. Leander School's youngest alumni, created a scholarship named after the man that inspired him to live a life of humility, integrity and charity, the Holocaust survivor and humanitarian, Elie Wiesel. Ryan raised the money himself to fund the scholarship for the San Leandro school. The first recipient of this scholarship, which Ryan hopes to give out each year, was Ashleen Calhan, right, who turned in an essay as the requirement on how she shows compassion for others.
