50 years: One faith, many cultures

Welcome to The Catholic Voice's coverage of the 50th anniversary of the founding of the Diocese of Oakland. From now through January 2013, we'll be reporting on 50th anniversary events, and offering a series of "Reflections" on different aspects of our history and what we expect about our future. Our next issue will feature graduations and consider Catholic education.

In this issue, there are profiles of our four bishops located In this issue, a brief look at the parishes that make up the diocese and our regular features. We thank advertisers and contributors for help in putting this and future 50th anniversary efforts together and our readers, for their loyalty, support and interest.

Vatican II and the Oakland Diocese were linked from their birth in 1962. The first English Mass in California was said in Oakland in 1964. At right, Most Rev. Floyd L. Begin, center and Msgrs.
