St. Patrick's Day turned out to be lucky indeed for Family Aid Catholic Education — FACE — as more than 400 guests shared some green, to the tune of $550,000 in net proceeds, for tuition assistance.
The annual gala auction, at the Blackhawk Museum in Danville, featured entertainment by the McBride School of Irish Dancing, the Bishop O'Dowd Jazz Combo and bag piper Lloyd Christiansen.
Student speakers shared the stories of how FACE grants have helped them pay for a Catholic education.
This school year, FACE has provided 260 elementary school students with $1,750 grants and 279 high school students with $3,050 grants. More than 1,500 qualified students are on a waiting list.
"What a difference an evening can make," said Chris Good, executive director of FACE. "Thank you to all who contributed to making the evening a wonderful celebration and affirmation of the quality of Catholic education."
