Sponsored by the Mary’s House of Mercy and Human Life International, this seminar addresses issues in bioethics affecting the unborn, disabled and elderly and the role of spirituality in the advancement of the Gospel of Life. Guest speaker Dr. Ligaya Acosta, who is from the Philippines, will discuss issues involving the controversial Reproductive Health Bill that will soon be voted on in her country. $25 donation, lunch included. Day of Reflection, Out of the Shadows and Into the Light: Erasing the Stigma of Mental Illness. 9:30 a.m.-4 p.m. at Sonnino Mission House, 2800 Milvia St., Berkeley. The Missionaries of the Precious Blood invite you to a day of prayer to explore the role the faith community plays in helping erase the stigma of mental illness. People of faith believe that embracing our pain, educating others, and sharing information and resources helps to erase the stigma. Participants will also honor the memory of those whose mental illness were terminal and resulted in suicide. There will also be time for personal reflection and dialogue.
