Marriage Encounter
Feb. 25-27, June 3-5, Sept. 9-11 and Nov. 18-20

Marriage Encounter is designed to deepen and enrich the joys a husband and wife share together, whether married for only a short time or for many years. The encounter weekend teaches a communication technique which permits each couple to explore important areas of their relationship in a spirit of love and understanding.

By continuing the newly acquired technique begun on the weekend, husbands and wives continually grow closer together to live more joyful and purposeful lives.

Sept. 16-18, 2011

Retrouvaille (pronounced retro-vi with a long “i”) is a French word meaning rediscovery. This program offers tools needed to recreate a loving marriage relationship, emphasizing effective and loving communication between husband and wife. Thousands of couples in cold and unloving relationships headed toward divorce have been successful in overcoming their problems by participating in this program. The Retrouvaille experience consists of a weekend presented by three peer couples and a Catholic priest followed by several post weekend sessions. Programs in Spanish are also available. Other local dioceses offer programs.

Marriage Preparation
Resident weekends: March 11-13, July 15-17, Sept. 30-Oct. 2

Resident weekends are those programs where you spend the weekend at a retreat house. Your rooms and meals will be provided. Since there are only a few retreat facilities available in the Diocese of Oakland, sometimes it is necessary to use retreat houses in adjacent counties. The weekend programs begin at 7 p.m. Fridays and conclude with Mass at approximately 4:30 p.m. Sunday; give each couple private time to discuss their reflection about the topic presented; are given by a trained team; and have about 25 couples attending. Fee is $425 per couple. Weekends are held at the San Damiano Retreat Center in Danville.

Marriage Preparation
P.R.E.P. Commuter Weekend: Feb. 26-27, March 5-6, March 26-27, April 9-10, April 30-May 1, May 21-22, June 11-12, June 25-26, July 30-31, Aug. 27-28, Sept. 17-18, Oct. 22-23, Oct. 29-30, Nov. 19-20, Dec. 10-11

A commuter weekend is just that — a weekend where you commute back and forth each day. This is a two-day program taking place from 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday and from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday. The P.R.E.P. commuter program addresses the same topics of married life as the P.R.E.P. resident weekend. This year most of these weekends will be held in Concord at a diocesan facility. Fee is $235 per couple.
