Calendar of Events

Humble beginnings
Nativity scenes or crèches, which for many define what the season is about, has a long tradition among Christians. But do you know how this tradition started or what it means to different communities? Take the time to discover or rediscover the crèche at the Cathedral of Christ the Light Crèche Festival, Dec. 17—19. Franciscan Father Joseph P. Chinnici, a widely respected scholar and teacher will talk about the origins of the crèche, at 4 p.m. on Dec. 17. The event also includes displays created by various parishes in the diocese as well as unique displays by designers and floral artists. Visit www.ctlcathedral.org for a full festival schedule. The cathedral is located at 2121 Harrison St. in Oakland.
