Farewell to a slain soldier

The family and friends of Pfc. Scott Barnett gather at St. Bonaventure Church in Concord for a memorial service, Feb. 8, for the 24-year-old soldier who died Jan. 28 in southern Iraq. The Catholic parish offered its church to accommodate more than 300 people who came to honor the Eagle Scout who enlisted in 2008 and was deployed to Iraq in November 2009. Barnett posthumously received the Army commendation and good conduct medals that were presented to his widow, Nikki (left), and his mother, Lori Barnett, during the service. He was buried at Sacramento Valley National Cemetery in Dixon.
