| VITA to
offer free tax prep assistance
Through its VITA (Volunteer Income Tax Assistance) program,
Catholic Charities of the East Bay (CCEB) is once again offering free
income tax preparation for low-income wage earners.
Taxpayers must have earned less than $49,000 in 2009 to be eligible for
this program, which includes free e-filing and tax services. VITA, which
will be offering these services through mid-April, is operated mainly
by volunteers who are trained and certified by the Internal Revenue Service
(IRS).
For more information or to make an appointment, contact the CCEB sites
in Concord or Oakland. The Concord site, at 3540 Chestnut Ave., will be
open on Mondays and Wednesdays from 4 – 8 p.m. for VITA. Telephone:
(925) 825-3099.
The Oakland site, at 433 Jefferson St., will serve clients on Tuesdays
and Thursdays from 4 – 8 p.m. and on Saturdays from 10 a.m. –
4 p.m. Telephone: (510) 768-3100 or (510) 768-3128. Appointments are required
at both sites.
Volunteers are still needed to assist at VITA’s Oakland site. Those
who are interested in volunteering or who know someone who could help,
should contact Chi Pham at cpham@cceb.org
or (510) 768-3161.
