SF Boys
Chorus joins Oakland cathedral
as Chorus-in-Residence, auditions Jan. 16
By Voice staff
The San Francisco Boys Chorus, a Grammy-award winning
singing group, has established a chapter in Oakland, becoming Chorus-In-Residence
at the Cathedral of Christ the Light.
The partnership, which began Jan. 4, will allow boy singers from East
Bay communities to rehearse and perform at the cathedral.
“We are delighted with the move to the cathedral,” said Ian
Robertson, chorus artistic director. The new chorus will perform in concert
at the cathedral several times a year.
Auditions will take place on Saturday, Jan.16, at the cathedral, located
at the corner of Grand Avenue and Harrison Street in downtown Oakland.
Audition forms are available on the Chorus website at www.sfbc.org/new/index.php/auditions/sfbc-audition-info.
Appointments can also be scheduled by phoning (415) 861-7464 or e-mailing
auditions@sfbc.org.
The San Francisco Boys Chorus was founded by Gaetano Merola and Madi Bacon
in 1948 to provide trained boy singers for the San Francisco Opera.
The group will continue to hold its regular training programs in San Francisco
and Marin County. Classes begin with boys as young as kindergarten and
continue through to a touring concert chorus.
