By Voice staff
Philip Augar, a former investment bank and author of
several books on finance and the economic crisis, will give a free lecture
on the global economic crisis, Tuesday, Oct. 6, at St. Mary’s College
in Moraga. His presentation, “Has the world really learned the lessons
from the banking crisis of 2008-2009?”, will be followed by observations
from two other economists, Jon Lukomnik and Stephen Davis.
Lukomnik, an expert in finance and corporate governance, is program director
with the Investor Responsibility Research Center Institute for Corporate
Responsibility. He is co-author with Stephen Davis and David Pitt-Watson
of “The Civil Economy.” Davis is senior fellow at Yale University’s
Millstein Center for Corporate Governance and Performance.
Augar’s works include “The Death of Gentlemanly Capitalism:
The Rise and Fall of London’s Investment Banks” (Penguin,
2000) and “The Greed Merchants: How the Investment Banks Played
the Free Market Game” (Penguin, 2005).
The lecture, open to the public, begins at 7 p.m. in the Soda Center.
There will be a question and answer period after the presentations. RSVP
is requested: (925) 631-4074.
The three economists are visiting the Moraga campus for a three-day conference
for institutional investors, sponsored by the college’s Elfenworks
Cener for the Study of Fiduciary Capitalism.
