Sister Mary Anselm Beardsley, OP

Sister Mary Anselm Beardsley, who recently celebrated her 80th year as a Dominican Sister of San Rafael, died Sept. 3 at the age of 101.

She retired from 50 years of teaching and school administration in 1979 and began pastoral ministry at St. Leander Parish in San Leandro. For 17 years she served the elderly and infirmed. At the age of 80 she participated in a 12-mile walk to raise money to feed the hungry.

She grew up in San Francisco, one of 12 children and entered the convent in 1928. Two of her sisters, Lois McKeon and Jean Malloy, and her brother Frank Beardsley survive her.

The funeral Mass took place Sept. 8 at the Dominican Sisters Center in San Rafael. Burial followed at St. Dominic Cemetery in Benicia.

Sister Marie Jordan Beausoleil, OP


Sister Marie Jordan Beausoleil, who taught for two years at St. Leo School in Oakland (1969-1971), died Aug. 25 at her community’s motherhouse in Sinsinawa, Wisconsin. She was 86 years old.

She made her first religious profession in 1947 and her final vows on Aug. 5, 1950. She taught elementary and junior high school for 33 years, serving six of those years as a principal.

She also held various secretarial positions for her religious congregation for 20 years.

She is survived by two sisters, Sister Victoire Beausoleil, OP, and Evelyn Carroll.

The funeral Mass was held at the community’s chapel on Aug. 28, with burial following in the motherhouse cemetery.
