of Consulters for diocese announced

Two leadership groups of priests in the Oakland Diocese
— the College of Consulters and the Presbyteral Council —
have new members in accordance with Canon Law’s requirement after
the appointment of a new bishop.
Bishop Salvatore Cordileone, installed as Oakland’s bishop on May
5, has named the following priests as consulters: Father George Mockel,
vicar general of the Oakland Diocese; Father Seamus Farrell, pastor of
St. Bede Parish, Hayward; Conventual Franciscan Father Robert Herbst,
adjutant judicial vicar of the Oakland Diocese; Father Paulson Mundanmani,
parochial administrator of St. Mary Parish, Walnut Creek; Father Paul
Schmidt, pastor of St. Joseph Parish in Pinole, and Father Larry Young,
pastor of St. Patrick Parish in Rodeo.
The Presbyteral Council members elected by their peers are: Father Ray
Breton, judicial vicar, Oakland Diocese; Jesuit Father David Lawrence,
parochial vicar, St. Bonaventure Parish, Concord; Conventual Franciscan
Father Robert Herbst, adjutant judicial vicar of the Oakland Diocese;
Father Jose Leon, pastor of Our Lady of the Rosary Parish, Union City;
Father Ruben Morales, parochial vicar, St. Clement Parish, Hayward; Father
Paulson Mundanmani, parochial administrator of St. Mary Parish, Walnut
Creek; Father Jesus Nieto-Ruiz, pastor of St. Anthony Parish, Oakland;
Father Paul Schmidt, pastor of St. Joseph Parish, Pinole; and Father
Ronald Schmit, pastor of St. Anne Parish, Byron;
Appointed to the Council by Bishop Cordileone are: Father Seamus Farrell,
pastor of St. Bede Parish, Hayward; Father Joseph Phan, director, Apostleship
of the Sea; and Father Larry Young, pastor, St. Patrick Parish, Rodeo.
Father George Mockel, vicar general of the Oakland Diocese, is an ex officio
member.
