Hospital ministry director

Father Matthew Vanissery

Father Matthew Vanissery became director of hospital ministry for the Oakland Diocese on July 1, responsible for organizing and overseeing hospital ministry at 28 hospitals in the East Bay. A native of India, he was ordained for the Archdiocese of Ernakulam, Kerala. He has a B.A. in science, three master’s degrees, and certificates in various aspects of pastoral care and hospital ministry. He has been a college and seminary teacher as well as a hospital minister and parish priest.
