Prayer service for Obama
Jan. 11 at new cathedral

The Cathedral of Christ the Light is joining with other East Bay houses of worship to host prayer services for President-elect Barack Obama and his administration. The services precede an area-wide event, Jan. 20, at Oakland’s Oracle Arena celebrating President-elect Obama’s inauguration that day in Washington, D.C.

Bishop Allen Vigneron will preside at the first of five community prayer services, Jan. 11, at 4 p.m. at the cathedral. The Interfaith Gospel Choir will provide the music. “This is our way of praying the best for the new administration,” said Father Paul Minnihan, cathedral provost. People of all faiths are invited to participate.

Other prayer services will take place at Congregation Beth El in Berkeley on Jan. 13, St. Paul AME Church in Berkeley on Jan. 14, Beebe Memorial Cathedral in Oakland on Jan. 18 and Acts Full Gospel Church in Oakland on Jan. 19.

The Jan. 20 celebration at the Arena begins at 8 a.m. Doors open at 7 a.m. Tickets ($5 per person) are available at the Arena Box Office and at www.Ticketmaster.com.

Christ the Light Cathedral is located at 2121 Harrison Street in Oakland. Underground parking is available at the cathedral garage. Enter from 21st Street.
